Peles Castle and Dracula's Tomb
Once again, we cross the Carpathians
Peles Castle was built between 1880 and 1920 for the new Romanian (triple kingdom) monarchy.
We couldn't take pictures inside, but every inch of the 110 rooms was
incredibly, ornately,  and extravagantly overdone!
The grounds weren't bad either.
There were a lot of Romainian tourists there too.  Platform shoes and either miniskirts or shorts were the uniform for young woman.  Incredibly, I didn't notice this style till Cindy pointed it out.  How does this work structurally?
This is the Monestary where Dracula is buried headless.  His head was sent to an
interested Sultan nead Istanbul.  Vlad established the monestary in about 1460.  It
is on an island, and the building has a moat around it.  (Vampires can't go over water
un-assisted).
Here is one of the original nuns.
Dracula's tomb. (First we thought our tour guide said 'thumb')
The paintings were 500 years old (without restoration).
Final fairwell from the somewhat stern priest. "Money is evil."
Back to the Hotel in Bucharest for our final night in Romania.
